Remnant of new fire station fund will be used to improve old one
Renovations at Weatherford Fire Station No. 1 will be made using funds remaining from the $3 million budgeted for construction of the virtually finished Fire Station No. 4.
Fire Chief George Teague told City Council July 8 that Weatherford’s newest fire station is 99 percent complete.
"We started the project with $3 million and have $248,703 left," he said. "We propose an addition of three office spaces and storage on Station 1, and a new roof on the air-conditioned space."
The 24-by-60-foot addition would cost $160,000, Teague said. The roof would cost $90,000.
"We know we can do the addtion [with the funds]," he said. "The roof is an alternate. We’d like to go ahead and petition for bids."
City Manager Jennifer Fadden told Council members that the $248,000 remnant can only be used for firefighting.
Weatherford Mayor Dennis Hooks, after hearing positive comments from fellow Council members, gave Teague the nod.
"I believe the consensus is that you have our blessing to go out for bids," he said.
