Weatherford City Manager Jennifer Fadden tried to explain away the huge spike in Weatherford’s municipal utility rates.
Americans getting pummeled at the gas pump may at least see some relief on their tax returns in the near future. A bill in Congress would increase the mileage reimbursement rate Americans could claim for business travel and charitable travel.
Weatherford municipal utilities have been serving customers in this community in some form since the late 1880s.

I was compelled to respond to the recent string of letters to the editor debating the definition of marriage as that between one man and one woman.
The headlines are full of bad economic news ranging from high gasoline and food prices to housing market woes. Pundits debate the best way to fix problems and deal with uncertainty. You might think we are in for a deep, dark recession. However, the U.S. economy is actually growing, albeit at a pace a bit anemic when compared to years past. The future is not nearly as bleak as some prognosticators suggest and, if you consider expectations for the long term, the picture is one of continued health with moderate prosperity.
Although the pace of global economic growth is predicted to moderate slightly this year, World Bank analysts suggest that the slowdown of the U.S. economy may be cushioned to some degree by the economic expansion in developing nations.
Our democracy is deteriorating as a result of apathy coupled with power interests’ domination of the machinery of political systems.
