A 14-12 first quarter deficit for the Kangaroos turned into a 42-12 halftime lead for the Abilene Eagles Saturday afternoon after a 28-point second quarter at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
The Roos would eventually succumb to the Eagles, 63-12, to fall to 1-1 in District 3-5A and 1-5 overall.
Up next for Weatherford is a Homecoming tilt against the Haltom Buffaloes, who are coming off a 46-41 win over Paschal.
Kangaroos head coach Kenny Wheaton said they had three starters out against Abilene and several other injuries but that, hopefully, "we will get one or two of them back this week."
In comparing the matchup, Wheaton said Haltom and Weatherford are similar.
"They are a lot like us; they are very capable of winning," he said. "They have lost a couple of very close games and Haltom has some very good skill position players, so they are scary."
Wheaton said the preparation for the game will be the same as always, despite the fact that it’s Homecoming.
"Homecoming is only fun when we win, so we have to keep our players focused on the task at hand," he said. "[And take] care of business first and foremost."
Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
