It was one of those moments players dream of.
Fourth-and-2 from the 4-yard line and the game on the line.
Trailing 41-35 in the third overtime Friday night, the Roos needed to either score or convert.
Unfortunately for Weatherford, they did neither as the handoff was fumbled and the game ended with the Roos on the losing end.
The loss leaves the Roos with only one win in District 3-5A as they head to Birdville FAAC Friday to take on Richland High School, which is tied with Abilene for first place and 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the district.
Richland is coming off a 53-3 victory over Paschal, where they accumulated 504 total yards of offense, 314 in the air.
The Rebels’ defense gave up 232 yards but forced three interceptions.
Friday’s game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
King and queen crowned
During halftime of Friday’s game, the Homecoming king and queen were crowned.
Seniors Chris Fielder and Kyla Teakell received the honor from Weatherford High School students. Teakell’s brother, Toby, and Savannah Folse were runners-up.
Fielder was crowned by last year’s king, defensive standout and current Notre Dame freshman Kapron Lewis-Moore, who was in Weatherford for the weekend.
Last year’s queen, Tamara Wallace, was unable to be at the ceremony.
It is the second time the Fielder family can claim royalty as Willie 'B.B.’ Fielder, Chris’ brother and former Roo running back, was honored with the title in 2006.
Chris Fielder is the son of Willie and Josepha Fielder and has lived in Weatherford for 15 years.
He plays on the varsity football team and runs track, though he injured his knee earlier in the season and is out for the year.
He also helps with Weatherford Optimist Pee Wee Football. Outside of school, he attends New Hope Baptist Church and enjoys four-wheeling and skateboarding.
Kyla Teakell is the daughter of Richard and Phyllis Teakell and has lived in Weatherford for 15 years.
She is currently a captain of the varsity cheerleading squad and is active in theater. She is the Drama Club secretary and involved with Student Council.
Kyla enjoys acting, watching her brothers play baseball, and cheering at football games. She hopes to attend either TCU or Texas State to pursue a degree in theater next fall.
